Hape Moloi
In 2017, I received a bursary from Umamawothando to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Strategic Communication. A life coach was appointed to me for the year, to assist me in preparing and enhancing myself for the business world. Since then, I obtained my Honours degree in Strategic Communications from the University of Johannesburg and I am currently studying part-time towards my Master of Arts degree in Marketing Communication at UJ with specific research on the impact of digitization in businesses delivering their mandates to their customers and corporate’s.
In July of 2017, I started a book project called ReadRight, which aims to reach one of the 2030 UN Sustainability goals of ensuring quality education and opportunities for all. Through the project, we offered reading, writing and tutoring lessons to students in Dube Soweto and we collected and donated old books to various schools in Soweto. Sasfin Wealth heard of my book drive and invited me to their Women’s month power lunch where the keynote address was delivered by co-founder of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings, Mme Gloria Serobe.
Sasfin Wealth invited asked each of their guests to bring books that they were no longer using but still in good condition and the books were handed over to me. On the 3rd of November 2017, I distributed the books to Nka-Thuto Primary School in Dube and collaborated with White Star maize meal to donate maize meal and instant porridge to the school. Most of the learners who attend the school depend on the school’s feeding scheme for food, 466 children were able to benefit from this project.
I am looking to collect, donate and deliver more and more books and I look forward to motivating and encouraging young people to keep reading and educating themselves. Education is the key to all freedom and success. Knowledge is power.
