Ms. Thembelihle Dube is a Clinical Psychologist residing in Cape Town. She has a Private Practice in Century City where she sees individual clients, families and offers consulting services to organizations that require psychological services. Ms. Dube recently started working at Valkenberg Hospital in the Forensic Unit. She is passionate about the development of human capital on the African continent. Her main areas of focus include making psychotherapeutic services relevant and responsive to the needs of
ordinary Africans, psycho-education, parenting skills and narrative identity. She is also currently reading for her PhD where she is examining the narrative identities of unemployed youth. UWT offered Ms. Dube a full scholarship which allowed her the opportunity to obtain her Masters Degree in Community Counselling and Clinical Psychology. Ms. Dube honours the legacy of Mrs. Hardebeck and her generosity by using the opportunity she was offered by UWT to make a lasting and meaningful contribution on the African continent through providing quality psychological services.
I completed my B.Psych Hons at Wits University in 2005 and my Masters in Community Counselling and Clinical Psychology at the University of Stellenbosch in 2011 with the support of the UWT Trust. Without the help of the Trust I would not be where I am today. The team at the UWT Trust were able to place their faith in me so I could make a meaningful contribution in our society. My Masters training offered me insight and practical exposure into psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Family Systems Theory and it touched on Emotionally Focused Couple's Therapy as well as Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I was trained to offer services to children, adolescents and adults.
A significant part of my training focused on work within the community in a township -Kayamandi, Stellenbosch where I was part of a project the Kayamandi Project supervised by Prof. Tony Naidoo. We offered support to learners at the two high schools in Kayamandi and I initiated the provision of psychological services at the Kayamandi Clinic. In that year we also facilitated an Open Day at both the schools to facilitate discussions with Grade 11 and 12 learners on their plans post-Matric.
My training also helped me learn how to administer assessments (intellectual, personality functioning etc), write reports, conduct research, carry out programme design and evaluation.
I completed my internship at Fort Napier Hospital in 2012 and am due to complete my community service year which I am currently undergoing at the Khayelitsha District Hospital in January 2014. In mid-January 2014 I will be offering services in Century City, weekdays 17:00 - 19:00 and Saturdays 08:00 - 13:00.
